Where It Began

Marenda.biz began in 2006 as Living Life Abundantly, my online space for sharing insights, resources, cultural commentary, and practical guidance for women seeking fuller, more intentional lives.

The original mission centered on thought, self-examination, personal growth, and positive change.

For years, the website grew alongside my work in politics, communication, entrepreneurship, advocacy, and community leadership.

Then life changed.

While I was undergoing breast cancer treatment, the original website was hacked. Years of writing, history, momentum, and digital work were lost during one of the most difficult periods of my life.

The loss was devastating.

Marenda.biz represented years of ideas, conversations, lessons, and work created long before social media became the center of online publishing. Losing that body of work during cancer treatment felt like losing a part of my voice at the exact moment I needed every ounce of strength for survival.

The website disappeared, but the purpose remained.

Over time, the experiences that followed gave the work deeper meaning. Breast cancer, survivorship, caregiving, career changes, leadership, entrepreneurship, advocacy, and returning to college all expanded the questions Marenda.biz needed to address.

The site has returned with a clearer structure and a sharper purpose.

Marenda.biz helps women understand the issues shaping their health, families, careers, businesses, financial security, and future.

The work connects lived experience with credible research, cultural context, and practical action.

Each article aims to help answer two questions:

What does this mean for me, my family, or my community?

What can I do next?

Protect

Protect covers the decisions that safeguard your health, income, family, rights, and future.

Topics may include insurance, workplace benefits, health advocacy, financial preparedness, caregiving plans, consumer protection, public policy, and the questions people often discover after a crisis arrives.

The goal is preparation rooted in understanding.

Heal

Heal explores survivorship, recovery, wellness, caregiving, creativity, rest, and the process of rebuilding after life changes direction.

Healing includes the physical, emotional, financial, spiritual, and logistical realities that shape everyday life.

The writing comes from lived experience, supported by research and practical resources.

Build

Build focuses on creating what comes next.

Topics may include entrepreneurship, service-based businesses, career development, digital products, artificial intelligence, communication, income strategies, ownership, and legacy planning.

The goal is movement from an idea toward something useful, sustainable, and capable of producing results.

Perspective

Perspective examines politics, culture, media, leadership, current events, and the systems influencing our choices.

I approach these subjects as a Black woman from Compton, a political strategist, former legislative staff member, communicator, entrepreneur, worker, caregiver, survivor, and advocate.

Black women are centered here because our experiences deserve analysis shaped from inside the experience.

The goal is to connect the headline to the household and explain what an issue means for our real lives.

Who I Am

I am Marenda Hughes, a strategist, communicator, entrepreneur, advocate, author, flight attendant, breast cancer survivor, and caregiver.

I have worked in political campaigns and public service, built digital platforms and businesses, led teams in aviation, supported women facing serious health challenges, and used communication to turn complex issues into information people can apply.

I am also a licensed California life insurance agent, a John Maxwell certified speaker and coach, and a graduate of DeVry University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Communication.

My advocacy has reached national audiences through my work with Delta Air Lines and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. In 2024, I received the Roslyn and Leslie Goldstein Unsung Hero Award for supporting another woman through breast cancer.

Each chapter of my life has reinforced the same belief:

Information becomes powerful when people can understand it, apply it, and use it to make a stronger decision.
